Unilever Acquired Dollar Shave Club for $1B

Unilever acquired Dollar Shave Club for $1B on Tuesday. This is the biggest acquisition ever for a venture-backed start-up in LA. Based in Los Angeles, CA, Dollar Shave Club was founded in 2011. In a short period of time, it has attracted a huge number of customer. They reached almost everyone’s attention via facebook and other social media.

Dollar Shave Club is a men’s grooming product, this subscription-based startup focused on providing shaving products at a very low cost every month. The there business model has tremendously changed the long term shaving goods market in a short time. This is the company which disrupts the business of  world’s oldest famous and successful company Gillette by Procter and gamble. “To say we didn’t come out of the gate with a bull’s-eye on Gillette would be disingenuous,” Michael Dubin, the 37-year-old founder and chief executive of Dollar Shave Club, said in a recent interview.

Subscription based razor service has never been this viral before. It has reached 3.2M subscriber and expanded with a line of men’s hair and skin products as well as wet wipes. It has been backed by more than $160M in venture capital and  valued at about $630M prior to the sale. Two of the lead investor was Forerunner Ventures and Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers
